Antibiotics – Yeast Infection Cure?

I have heard people ask if they should take antibiotics for yeast infections. The answer is a definite no.

Candida, the type of yeast found in and on the body, needs a certain environment to grow and multiply. We generally don’t have a lot of candida microorganisms in our bodies, as their numbers are kept low by beneficial bacteria.

What effect does taking antibiotics have?  The bacteria in the intestine are killed off.Antibiotics kill all bacteria in the body, good or bad. They remove part of our body’s defense by killing the good bacteria along with the bad.The good bacteria usually control the growth of candida, but when there are no more good bacteria the yeast grows out of control.  The candida then break through the wall of the intestines and get into the blood stream.Symptoms become apparent.

The main reasons that antibiotics can encourage yeast infections are:

  • The immune system is weakened when the “friendly” bacteria are killed by antibiotics.  When there is not a healthy immune system, there is no system to control the growth of candida.
  • Antibiotics unbalance the pH levels in the body. The pH level is the acid-alkaline balance.Candida overgrowth is more likely when the body is in an acidic state, which is caused by antibiotics.

The situation is much worse if you have had long-term antibiotic use.  Until you get your body back in balance the yeast infections will continue to recur.

We get antibiotics by prescription but forget that our food sources often contain antibiotics as well.

It is a well-documented fact that animals grown for human consumption have been fed a lot of antibiotics.Animals must be free of disease to be sold. When you eat them you also ingest antibiotics.

Cows are given large doses of antibiotics, so their milk also contains antibiotics.Only use organic dairy products to avoid taking in antibiotics.  If you switch to goat or sheep products, check that they are organic, too.  Or use soy milk!

It can be hard to find liquid soap without the addition of antibacterial agents. It’s worth the effort to get soap that does not contain antibacterial substances.

It’s important to know a yeast infection cannot be cured with antibiotics. If you get yeast infections it’s important to avoid taking antibiotics.  And it will help you to avoid non-organic meats, dairy products, soaps and other antibacterial products.

If you want to be free of yeast infections altogether, there are ways to get your body back in balance.  You need to change the internal environment of your body so that yeast will not grow fast and their numbers will be kept down by friendly microorganisms.  I recommend professional help for this, either in person or written by a qualified practitioner, as it involves diet, supplements and therapies and it’s important to get it right.
